The winner of the Abel Prize, the world's largest international mathematics prize, will be announced by Annelin Eriksen, President of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. The winner is a mathematician who has made outstanding contributions to mathematics.
The prize was established by the Norwegian government in 2002 and is administered by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. The chair of the Abel Prize Committee, Professor Helge Holden, will read out the commitee's citation. Holden's field of research is differential equations and mathematical physics, particularly hyperbolic conservation laws and completely integrable systems. He is joined on the committee by four internationally renowned mathematicians.
British science journalist Timandra Harkness will present the winner's work in an accessible way. Harkness is known for communicating and popularising both mathematics and statistics and is one of the UK's leading communicators of mathematical science.
