The President of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, Lise Øvreås will announce the winner of the 2022 on March 23. The Academy's choice of laureate is based on the Abel Committee's recommendation.

The chair of the Abel Committee, Hans Munthe-Kaas, will then give the reasons for awarding the prize. This is followed by a popular presentation of the prize winner's work, and his/her immediate response to being announced as the winner of the Abel Prize.
